Remember that time you counted us out.
Well the DOGS will see you Friday night!
Somebody asked me the other day when I posted the first couple blogs what did the tired part of the title mean. Well here you go……
When I first got hired back in June 2018 I thought I would have had a lot more support from those that I knew. Most people that I was close with were ecstatic for me. The rest would say congrats and then kind of throw in their opinion of Crestline even though they had no idea what they were talking about. Comments like “I can’t believe they still have a school district and they haven’t combined with anybody” or “every time there’s a decent player there the kid transfers”. And my personal favorite there’s nothing in Crestline when have they ever been good at any sport.
It’s only my second year being a part of Crestline but I’m already tired of listening to people. I can’t even imagine how the residents feel how these kids feel. The more I’m a part of Crestline the more I love it. Just from a community standpoint We had a few businesses in town raise over $4,000 for our basketball program. Not because they had to but because they wanted to. We had people that weren’t even affiliated with the basketball program or even the school for that matter that came out and donated food for our spaghetti fundraiser.
Last year we had kids without the direction of their coach Make sure that another kid from another team scored his first high school points. Which got attention from big time news channels across the state. We had upperclassmen come to me after a neighboring school system lost their football coach and ask what can we do for them. We had upperclassmen suggest to have a moment of silence for a school in our conference because they lost a girl to cancer. We have the most loving and genuine kids that ive been around.
From a basketball standpoint we have a group of kids that are going to have potentially the first winning season in 25 years. After people have transferred and quit on them they’re still showing us how great they are. We have kids that are about to make noise in the tournament because once again they’ve been overlooked by people that know nothing about them and haven’t given them any credit. That’s okay though that’s when Crestlines an these boys are at its best.
So the next time somebody’s about to make a comment about Crestline tell them to hold off because we’re TIRED of listening to it!
Its good to see our kids in our school be a part and of help lead the Crestline comeback!

I think we have all been reminded this week that time is precious. To enjoy the moment, this very second that our Creator has blessed us with. I am trying to slow life down, trying to slow it down for at the very least the next 9 games and the next 3.5 weeks. Life and particularly this year has flown by 0 to 55 just like that.
When I first interviewed for this job I remember being asked what excites you about this job. I had been on the opposing bench for few years prior and remember looking up and down that Dog roster and thinking at what point do they run out of athletes. Some of those athletes have gone on and graduated. But we still have some seniors that remind me everyday why I love to coach. #0,#13,#45 and #55. These four remind me everyday why I love to be a Bulldog.
These four have helped redefine a program. Have shown and taught us all what its like to give their very best all the time. They have set the bar so high for all of our players, us coaches and fans! Good basketball players, great teammates and better men. It feels like just yesterday I met these guys. 0 to 55 just like that. Us coaches have talked over the recent days and we are searching for a way to slow down the next 9 games. To enjoy the blessing of being their coach.
I hope they can get it to slow down themselves. Capture what makes this team so unique and cherish the memories that go along with it. These four kids senior year I pray ends with wins, championships and more importantly relationships that will last them a life time. Forever they’re our Dogs!

short story attached is a life lesson
I’m sitting there. It’s two o’clock in the morning, I’m watching film and I’m thinking to myself. How are we going to beat them? I love my team. Great group of kids. When I have a long day at work I want to be around a combination of 24 people. Either the 18 kids on my team, my 3 assistant coaches or my wife and two kids. But anyways, oh yeah and if you don’t know me then know this. I suck at writing. You will find more grammatical errors in this then a kindergartner writing an essay. But like I was saying its 2 a.m. I am watching film wondering how were going to win. I always want to win I always prepare as hard as I can but the only people that think we are definitely without a doubt going to win is my JV coach which is one of my best friends and the other 7 kids on my team. These kids could go up against the 1971-1974 UCLA Bruins who won like 88 straight games and our team would still believe they were the better team. I think that what I enjoy most about these kids. Were about to go up against a perennial power house which I wanted. I like to play the best and I truly believe if you want to be the best you have to play the best. Next thing I know…….
Final Score Opposing team 88 Our team 31.
Well, Yikes. However the best part of the story is we have a radio show every other Wednesday night. The perennial power house we were talking about they are on the radio right before us. So our paths cross once maybe twice a month when we see them there. Anyways we are walking in and one of my players after losing by 57 says to me I’m gonna ask them and there coach if they want to run it back. I shook my head laughed and said you do that.
I say that to get at this. I find it humorous. However I think even though he laughed he believes that we would get them the next time. Maybe that is why I love these boys so much. When they get knocked down. They don’t need help back up. There teammates may jump to it and offer a hand. But these boys just get back up and want another chance at it. Another chance to prove themselves and show everyone they are better. No one will tell them no or they can’t they just show them they can and they will. After all they did win 6 out of 7 and have given themselves self a chance for a bye to the sectional championship game. This is just what these dogs do!
A lot of parents in our area have sent there kids off to open enrollment or chose a different path for there kid. Its no knock on them. They want whats best. But were in good shape. Our parents our community our District has done well. They have helped shape young men and taught them that you don’t give up. It may be a road block but it isn’t the end. These young men will achieve huge things in life because they weren’t afraid and they got back up. The choice to help raise these kids together in a tight knit community is paying dividends not just now but will on down the road. Man I have come across a lot of great kids, friendships and relationships that I will cherish forever but boy do I LOVE MY DOGS. Job well done Crestline you have, are and will continue to raise incredible young men.

You’re going to publish a post today. Don’t worry about how your blog looks. Don’t worry if you haven’t given it a name yet, or you’re feeling overwhelmed. Just click the “New Post” button, and tell us why you’re here.
Why do this?
The post can be short or long, a personal intro to your life or a bloggy mission statement, a manifesto for the future or a simple outline of your the types of things you hope to publish.
To help you get started, here are a few questions:
You’re not locked into any of this; one of the wonderful things about blogs is how they constantly evolve as we learn, grow, and interact with one another — but it’s good to know where and why you started, and articulating your goals may just give you a few other post ideas.
Can’t think how to get started? Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft”. Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.
When you’re ready to publish, give your post three to five tags that describe your blog’s focus — writing, photography, fiction, parenting, food, cars, movies, sports, whatever. These tags will help others who care about your topics find you in the Reader. Make sure one of the tags is “zerotohero,” so other new bloggers can find you, too.
